This is a modified version of the "Connect PPP" Applescript that's included with OT PPP 1.0f1c6. Unlike the original there is no need to enter your username, password or phone number at connection time. I though it defeated the purpose of an AppleScript to have to type all that information, especially when you could have connected via the PPP Control Panel faster.
To use this script you'll need to have the phone number for your service provider configured in the PPP control Panel. As far as I can tell it makes no difference if you have it setup as a Guest or Registered User. You will also need to have configured a connect script that works with your provider, although it may work without one (I haven't tested it that way). To create a connection script, connect for the first time using the Command Line Host option in the PPP Control Panel. When the terminal window pops up click on the Options button and you'll find a setting that allows you to save a script. Be warned though, I've yet to see a ready made script that didn't need a little hand editing in SimpleText. Before you connect the next time go into the PPP Contol Panel, click Options and select Connect Script as your connection method and import the newly created script.
If you really want to go all the way and have Control Strip or any other variant you can use Steven Fuchs ScriptStrip Module to make connecting even easier. It enables you to launch AppleScripts, you know where to put the Control Strip but put the "ScriptStrip Services" application in the startup items folder for ease of use (uses 300k of memory). When you restart go to the system folder and you'll see a folder named "Scripts". Move the Easy PPP Connect and PPP Disconnect scripts into it. Now check out your control strip, you'll see the new module. When you click on it it'll give you a list of all the AppleScripts in the "Scripts" folder..... launch away!!!! You should be able to find ScriptStrip in any of the Info-Mac Archives.
